Hi Oppo friends, it’s been a while. Most of you may know me from !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but I still lurk around here pretty often. It looks like the rumors are flying again that the Herb and his G/O Overlords are threatening to ax our community run blogs on Kinja. I’m inviting you all to check out !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! as an alternative new home.

When G/O media pulled this shit last Fall, I had already begun experimenting with DriveTribe as a new home for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . I didn’t want some overpaid cry- ass to wipe out 6 years of my hard work building the LaLD community, so I told everyone to jump ship and start focusing our content on DriveTribe. Let me tell you: we found amazing success with their platform. W e’ve accumulated almost 17 millions view in a little over a year and have grown from a tiny diecast blog to 1500 members strong. Our content regularly gets shared to DriveTribe’s front pages and collaborations are actually encouraged there. Hell, James May is even a member of our Tribe.

We all know DriveTribe was the laughing stock of online car communities when they burnt through a ton of cash after their launch, but they’ve really worked hard on coming around. It’s kind of like Oppo, but with organized topics. You can join different “Tribes” to find like-minded enthusiasts. There’s a Spotting Tribe to share pics of any cars you find in parking lots and down on the street. There’s Owners Clubs for people to share stories and pics of a particular make and model like yours.

It’s not a perfect platform, but it’s better than Kinja. DriveTribe has a “desktop” site that allows you to compose sophisticated articles with headings, photos/slideshows, and even polls or quizzes. Their mobile app is better suited for on-the-go posts. The community definitely has a global reach, and is a great place for budding journalists to cut their teeth. Better yet, there’s a “Creator’s Program” that actually lets you get paid for your posts. Covid kicked that program’s funding in the balls pretty hard, but back in the day, my diecast posts were earning me enough money to fund my hobby on its own. Now it pays for my Hot Wheels, but still.

The same people have also launched FoodTribe, which is kind of like Oppo but for food. I like food, maybe you do too.

I’m going to share a few posts below to give you guys a better idea of how their platform works. There’s even an !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! already established, although I’m not sure how active it is. If you have any questions, please drop me a comment below.

I find it funny (well maybe not funny per say) that we could be moving from one platform known for it’s instability to another. Than again, we all thought it would have flopped and closed down years ago, but it’s still here.

Very true, but then comes the question why would you want to support a business that does that to its users?

Yeah, Oppo doesn’t quite work on DT as there are already a ton of tribes devoted to Oppo topics.

I’ve also found that it’s best to make sure you go find the people you are used to engaging with and ‘follow’ them so you get a notification whenever they post.  Helps keep up with everyone.

Is there any way to see what date/time a post was made? That kept me from migrating my LaLD presence and existing posts over there.

Not specific dates and times, but “x days ago” and so forth
